Fields of “String” type are used to allow users to input themselves the needed value without selecting from the predefined ones.

String type fields are displayed as input boxes in input and search forms on the front-end.For example string fields are the ones where users enter their personal data, such as: E-mail, Company Name, Contact Name, Web Site, etc:

To edit a field of ‘string’ type you need to click on the “Edit” icon opposite this field in the Admin Panel. E.g. to edit the "Company Name" field you need to go to Users > User Groups > Employers > User Profile fields > Company Name > "Edit" icon.

There will be the form opened where you can modify the ‘string’ type field parameters and select/ enter the default value to be set for this particular field. For example edit “Company Name” field:

As you can see the administrator can limit the length of values entered to a string type field. By default the maximum length is set to 256 symbols.

You can set your own limit for a string type field if needed. Once the changes are done - press the "Save" button.

Note: If a field you are editing is a User Profile field (like in the example above) - you can enter
the desired default value for this field.

But if a field you are editing is a Listing field - then you can either enter the value to be set
as a default one or select one of the User Profile fields to be used as a default value.
